Excel.exe does not open any more

J

Jennifer Bo

Hi,

please can anyone help me, I am frustrated.

I cannot open Excel any more. Neither clicking on it in the start menu
nor clicking on excel.exe in explorer nor trying to start it in safe
mode from the command line works (excel.exe /s).

Windows shows an error message which says that it cannot access the
file and I might not have the permission to open it.

My computer is running with Windows XP and Office 2003. I am always
logged in as administrator. All other Office programs (Word,...) work
fine. The problem startet after I installed Google Desktop Search. I
deinstalled Excel, reinstalled it, used the repair feature, restarted
the computer, but all of this didn't help.

Just pure guesses follow...

Have you tried uninstalling the google desktop search program?

Have you tried running winXP's detect and repair (I don't use winXP, but I think
it has the same feature.)

And you may want to try reregistering excel.

Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

And you're sure you're logged in as the admin?
