Excel Error

I have users who experiences MS Excel 2002 SP3 is shutting down very often...
It happens every time they do a "bold" command, when they try to save it
closes with an unknown error.

I checked the security patches, all are updated. Funny is when I do a "ran
as" using an admin account, error does not show and it saves without any
issue. I used ORK profile wizard to save the admin setting for EXCEL and
copy it to the users but it did not help.

To update, I have added the users to admin group but they still have the
same error.

OK, now you get to remove these users from the admin group since it didn't
fix this problem and is a really bad idea generally.
....

How are they "doing" a bold command? Running the menu command Format >
Cells, selecting the Font tab in the Format Cells dialog, then selecting
Bold in the Font style list box? Or when they press [Ctrl]+B, that is, hold
down a [Ctrl] key and press the B key? If only when they do the latter, then
this is almost certainly due to a macro assigned to that keystroke
combination. You should be able to check what macros they have available by
running Tools > Macro > Macros... . At that point you'd need to select each
macro in turn from the Macro dialog, and click on the Options button to
check if the selected macro has a keystroke shortcut, and if it does whether
it's [Ctrl]+B.

Hello
In addition to Harlans's answer, if bold command is used via the Excel
toolbar, you may also check for a possible corrupt *.XLB file.

When you change the format, excel uses the printer driver to determine how it
should appear on the screen. (I think all windows programs do the same kind of
thing.)

I'd try changing to a different printer (or printer driver)--you could install a
local printer driver even if the printer doesn't physically exist.

Then test it out.

If that doesn't work, I'd check the video driver.

Your reply is very much appreciated. However, I'd like to stress out that it
runs well using my corporate admin account. Users are just doing the simple
ctrl+b (Or clicking the bold function at top. This just happened recently and
is starting to spread over the network. Would there be anything like copying
the corporates account excel registry settings and then import it to the
users settings?

What happened when you tried changing the printer? It shouldn't take too much
time to test.

It may run well, but giving admin priviledges to nonadmin users is a very
bad idea.

If this is spreading, has anyone considered that it might be either malware
or some software or driver update that might be spreading corrupted files?

What else has been happening on your network recently?
