Excel Error Message!

Help,
Everytime I open a worksheet in Excel I get the error message "A
Document with the name "@@@@@.xls" is already open. You cannot open two
documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different
folders.
To open the second document, wither close the document that's currently
open, or rename one of the documents.". I am not on a network as Microsoft
has suggested and their is no other document with that name on my computer.
I am running Office Professional 97 with both servie releases one and two.

I would be greatful for any suggestions as this is driving me crazy.

Thanks
Bill

Try the usual fixes for this problem.

Tools>Options>General uncheck "Ignore other Applications"
Exit Excel and try again

If this doesn't work try to re-register Excel

Close Excel first and
On the Windows Taskbar

1 ) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

Thanks but it didn't work. When I try to run the c:\Microsoft
Office\Office\excell.exe/unregserver it comes up and states that the program
Microsoft. can not be found. Ieven browsed for the correct location then
added /unregserver after removing the quotes. I get the same message. Any
more suggestions?

Leave the quotes in the command string:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /unregserver

Note that there is a space between the ending quote and the the /
character.
