Excel data functions

Why do DGET, DSUM, etc require a range as the criteria, and one that must be
at least 2 cells high, at that.

I've got a whole chart of things that need to call on these functions and
the one-row-mapping-into-two thing is NOT helpful.

Yes, yes, I get it, I can stick side-by-side columns off to the side
somewhere and get around it, but it's unbelievably cumbersome.

Why can't I, instead of having to use a range as criteria, just specify it
right in the function?

Sorry. This is a newsgroup dedicated to questions about Access, the
database program in Office Professional. It appears your question may not
be related to these subjects. The Microsoft help system is not all that
clear and may have misdirected you here.

It is best to ask your questions in a newsgroup dedicated to the
subject of your question. You should find people better able to address
your problem there.

Note: It is always best to indicate the name and version of any
program(s) you may be using when asking a question and also indicate the
operating system (like Windows XP or 98) when you ask a question.

Apologies. That's what I get for using a very old bookmark - I misremembered
that I could post questions for all MSOffice apps here. My question (and the
one I posted immediately after, also here) are both now on the appropriate
Excel page. Any I can remove this whole thread?
