Excel automatically creates a shortcut on the root of c:\

I have a VB application that automates excel.
It opens an xls file, modifies some data and saves it.
As soon as the file is saved, excel automatically creates a shortcut to this
file in the root o my c: drive.
how can I stop this from happening.

I think Jim Rech suggested this:

Check to see where your "Recent" folder points to.

If it points at your desktop, that could be where windows/excel is storing the
shortcut.
