Excel auto format

How can I turn off the auto format (or whatever that it
is) that changes my 1-1 to 1 Jan 2004, 0r changes my 1-1-1
to 1 Jan 2001??

You can't turn that off.

Two choices:

Preformat the cell as TEXT or, enter it like this: '1-1

Either pre-format the cells as Text or enter an apostrophe before the 1-1-1

i.e '1-1-1
