Excel asking for save with no changes

No. These are primarily tabled text files. The only formulas ar
"=now()" for the date and "+a1" where the cell is returning a tex
reference from another cell

and NOW() is automatically re-claculated everytime you open Excel. This
is the reason why the file is changed (and the formula result has been
changed)
