Excel add-in problem

Everytime I attempt addin (Tools> Add-ins) I get an error --- "Microsoft
excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."
Would appreciate help on solving this issue.

There may be a problem with one of your add-ins. I would reset the add-in
list to the default in the hope this addresses the problem.

With Excel closed:
-Open the registry editor (Start->Run "Regedit.exe" (no quotes))
-Try to navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Add-in Manager
(substituting your version for the 11 if not Excel 2003).
-If you have this key select each item in the right pane other than
"default" and delete it.
-Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options
-In the right panel look for all entries that begin with "OPEN", (OPEN1,
OPEN2, etc.) and delete each one.
-Close Regedit.

This does not delete any add-ins. It just keeps them from loading
automatically. If you want some to load automatically you will be able to
re-select them from the Tools, Add-ins list.

Jim, I appreciate your attempt to help but when I went to the registry as you
suggested there were no items other than default and no entries beginng with
open. Any other ideas. My wifes computer has excel and it works correctly
but every time I select Tools>add-ins I get no regular form. Just the
warning there is a problem and must shut down. Thanks again drjim
