Excel 97 Problem searching for character

Z

I'm still using Excel 97 and I've created a worksheet with several
tildes (~) that I am using as a placeholder. My intent is to use
search and replace to replace the tilde with a string of characters at
a later date. The problem is, I don't seem to be able to do a search
and replace on the ~ character. Excel complains it can't find
"matching data to replace". Is there something extra I need to do to
search for a ~ character?

Hi,

Try typing another tilde after the first tilde when you use the find
feature ( enter "~~")
