Excel 7.0 Can't read .xls file

I recently received an Excel file that I am unable to
open. I get the message: Invalid format. I have
version 7.0 of Excel. New I need to upgrade to the newest
version of Excel, and if so, how? Thank you!

Hi

You need a slightly newer version of either Excel or a spreadsheet program
that can deal with Excel files. Version 8 was a major upgrade with a change
of file format, so 8 (=Excel97) or above will do, you won't need the newest.

You might try the free Excel 97/2000 Viewer from Microsoft:

This is a Viewer. If you need to update files from version 7.0, you'll have
to get Excel 97 or later.
