Excel 2007 Update Link Values Causes Application Crash

Have several workbooks linked to another workbook "WB1". When I open one of
the linked workbooks, and try to update values from "WB1", the application
crashes.
However, if "WB1" is open during the update values process, then it works
fine.
We recently upgraded to Excel 2007 and upgraded our workbooks to the Excel
2007 format. We did not have to have "WB1" open using our previous version of
Excel.

According to the following list Excel 2007 still supports WB1 files, maybe
it's a WQ1 file?

Sorry, I was using "WB1" as the workbook name for reference. The file is an
"*.xlsm" file.
