Excel 2007 opens without data

I can only open EXCEL files (.xls or .xlsx) by opening EXCEL 2007 first, not
by double clikcing from Windows XP home explorer. The suggested fixes I have
found here refer to older versions of Windows and Excel and haven't worked in
this case. Any suggestions? Thanks.

This seems to be a common problem (but it doesn't happen all the time).

You may be able to click on the Office button, show the Open dialog, then close
this dialog and see the data.

Or just open excel first, then use ctrl-o (Open) to open your file.

See if this helps:
Office button, Excel options, Advanced, scroll down to General section,
uncheck Ignore other applications

Thanks for your instruction. It was very helpful and will continue to "pay
it forward" as our City rolls out 2007 (better late than never). I've never
had this happen in 2003.
