Excel 2007 - How to protect my workbbok from people copying my des

Good morning,

I have developed a spreadsheet at work and I have now been asked to share
with the other departments.

I would like to somehow protect from people copying my work and saying that
it was their development by putting my name in place that noone would be able
to delete.

How can I do it?

Hi

what you can achieve is very limited but if you are only trying to stop
someone at work stealing your development there are some simple techniques
that make it more difficult.

1. Make sure ALL the cells containing your formulas have the 'hidden' box
ticked
2. Use a password to protect the worksheet and the workbook
3. create a separate tab with your name/employee ref etc and assign a name
to it (insert name define <yourname>) use VBA to make name and tab XlHidden


If you find a copy of your sheet in use that seems to have been taken from
yours you can type =yourname into an unlocked cell and it will show your name
and ref details

All of the above is dependent on your Excel password not being guessed or
cracked so ) make it difficult (letters, numbers, caps, etc) and b) if you
want real protection try something like XLSafe from ozgrid

There's not much you could do to stop people from taking credit for your work.

Anything I would want to do would rely on some sort of protection (worksheet,
workbook, VBE) or macros, but all of these could be broken pretty easily.

Instead, I'd just add a "contact" worksheet with instructions, list of updates,
where they can find the current version.

You may find that the best thing that could happen is that the original gets
shared lots of times -- then everyone will know where to find the developer.
