Excel 2007 - cursor down & left after entry - How?

How can I get the cursor to go down one line AND return to its original
column position after data entry?

I finally found the options and the selection is "Down" after entry.
However, it will not return back to the first column where I started.

I guess I am old, but the new 2007 is too....too much icons for me....

Select A1 then Tab your way across row 1 as you enter data.

When you reach say, column H, hit the ENTER key to go to A2.

This method will always return you to the original column(any column) you
started in and one row down.

Thank you for your response but my Excel 2007 is not doing that - it is only
going down 1 cell - it is not returning to the original column - so if I am
in column H (as in your example - when I hit return it goes to H2

I have not yet upgraded to 2007 so can't test.

The Tab, Tab, Tab then ENTER works with earlier versions.

Perhaps a 2007 user can confirm the method works or not.

Hi Gord

Yes everything does still work the same as earlier versions.
Tab, Tab, Tab Enter
would go A1, B1, C1 A2

To the OP, are you sure you are using the TAB key, not the right arrow
key or Enter as you progress across the page before you hit Enter?

Okay - this is only happening in a protected Worksheet - is there a way
around this to get the cursor to respond the same as if the worksheet was not
protected? I am only experiencing this in Excel 2007

And yes - definitely using the tab key - it is a form that has two columns of
numbers to be entered (A & B) - a forumula exists in column c (cells locked)
a selection is made from a drop down list in column d, Columns e & f have
formulas (vlookup) dependent upon the drop down list for column d and tables
created on a separate worksheets. When formulas are unprotected - the cursor
works fine. Protected - the tab works great (skipping the procted cells and
going directly to the input cells) but when hitting the "Enter" key, it only
goes down one row (not back to the original input column)

Hi

I have just set up a sheet.
I unlocked columns A,B,C and F,G,H
I protected the sheet.
Starting in A1
Tab, Tab, Tab, Tab, Tab, Enter
moves the active cell to
B1, C1, F1, G1, H1, A2
B2, C2, F2, G2, H2, A3
for me with XL2007 on Windows XP Professional.

If you are still having a problem, send me a copy of the file. To send
direct, remove NOSPAM from my address.

Glood morning Roger - what options did you choose for the protection of the
sheet?

I do not have 2007 on this computer and file is at client site or I would
gladly send you the file.

Hi

I didn't select any options, just took the default. Didn't give any
password.
When I say I unlocked the columns, I meant that I selected those
columns, Format>Cells>Protection>took the tick out of Locked.

I have all versions of XL from 97 to 2007 on my machine, and the
behaviour for 2007 I have not found in any way different with respect to
the things being discussed in this thread.

Good Morning Roger,

I did exactly as you documented in your reply, with the exception of
choosing the option "select non-protected cells" only - this creates the
problem that I defined originally the cursor does not return to the
originating column - truly it does not, but thanks for your time and
consideration
