Excel 2007 attachments

I am able to preview but not open or save Excel 2007 .xls email attachments.
I am using Outlook 2007. When I try to open the attachment in outlook, Excel
starts but I get a message "the system cannot find the file specified". When
I try to save the attachment it is saved as an unknown file type.

What happens if you create an XLS in Excel, save it, close Outlook and then
try to double click the XLS file?
