I have been using Excel for many years now, all of a sudden, whenever I try
to open an excel file I get this: This file needs to be opened by The
Microsoft Excel Worksheet text. I have to say no and close out and open up
excel program and then go to the file and open it. How can I get it back to
just double clicking the file and getting it to open up in excel. The
extensions say excel, so that is not it.

The first thing that I'd try is to reregister excel to set it back to factory
defaults.

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

Then test it out.
