Excel 2003 Numbers format, 16th digit is always zero

Office 2003, Excel 2003. Editing cell content-
If the cell is NOT formatted for text, the 16th digit can be changed in the
cell or the format bar (in the edit mode) but always changes to zero upon
leaving the edit mode. The same thing happens on original entry. I did not
test to determine if this only a display glitch or an incorrect data entry.
Please let me know if there is a service pack that corrects this. I just
turned on Office in my machine (bought the key). I installed all of the
necessary English upgrades.

Hi Carl,

15 digits is the largest number that Excel can work with mathematically.
Typically when you're entering more numbers than this you're dealing with
something like a credit card number that isn't designed to be used in
computations, so you can format the cell as text and enter as many digits as
you like.
