Excel 2003: Formatting Subtotal Lines

I have just prepared a report using the subtotal feature. I am finding that I
have to click on every subtotal line individually in order to format them
with a yellow background to highlight them. If i drag through the entire list
of lines, ALL the lines get formatted even though I clicked to see only the
subtotal lines (clicked on the small 2 in the subtotal lines to the left of
the screen.)

Is there an easier way to do this?

You can use conditional formatting, are you formatting for each line that
has the word Total?

Assume the date (not header) start in A2 and you want to format B whenever
the word total is present in A?

Select all cells in B that are part of the range starting with B2, then do
format > conditional formatting, select formula is and use

=ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Total",A2))

click the format button and select the pattern and click OK twice

and I want to format the rows where the totals are.

I can't see how I can explain this in easier terms, you obviously have to
replace all cell references in my example with your cell references
