excel 2003 - error in starting the program compile error in AutoExecNew

Sam

I installed a brand new Office 2003 on an xp machine.
Starting Excel, brings a box saying:

"compile error in AutoExecNew".

The help does not help much as it is apparently a hidden file.

Then, when I ignore this, it seems Excel works OK but shutting it down
brings a another window:

"Compile error in hidden module DistMon".

I tried to repair Office and it said it is repaired but this error remains.

I have no idea what to do.

Pls help.......

Dear Dave,
Thanks so much.
I specifically uninstalled acrobat 5 before installing office 2003, deleted
all files that had anything to do with templates from it......no problem
with Word.
I made the same installation on two other machines with no problem...

I searched now - there is no file by the name of pdfmaker.xla

Any other "culprit"??

Thanks so much

Nope. But I bet you'll find it if you search through hidden folders and for
hidden files.

Or even shelling to DOS and running an old DOS command would be helpful:

Windows start button|Run
cmd (windows 2k/xp)
command (windows 98)

At the DOS prompt:
C: (to get to the C: drive)
cd\ (to get to the root directory)

dir pdf*.xl* /s

the /s means to search through subdirectories.
