Excel 2003/2000 slow to open

I am using Microsoft 2003 and when I open any excel document of any
size it takes about 15 seconds to open the document. When I just open
a blank document - go to run and excel a blank document opens
immediately. I have tried excel documents that have very little data
in the spreadsheet and those take about 15 seconds to load so it is
any sized document. Any ideas?
 
Are these documents stored on your machine or on a server external to where
you are located?
