Excel 2002: Why the first row of the subtotal table always not add

G

Guest

Dear Sir,

I try to use the Subtotal Function at Data > Subtotal and find that the
first row of the block of data (Cell D2) always not added. Surprisingly this
happens to other data table as well.

The grand total also short of the amount of the first cell that is omitted .

I highlight the data block in cell A2: D24 and follow the default
instructions on the dialog box to to get the folowing subtotal table

May I know why the amount 282.00 in cell D2 is not added and how to fix
this problem ? Can this due to a programing error in the Excel 2002
Spreadsheet ?

Thanks

when you use subtotal, highlight the area from A1 to D24. I think there lies
the problem.

Put =isnumber(D2) in an empty cell.

Do you see True or False?

If you see False...
select D2
format|cells|general (or any number format--not text)
and retype that entry.

Ps. If that doesn't work, then post the formula that does the subtotal. Maybe
that cell isn't part of the range to be subtotaled?

in an empty cell enter
=d2+d3+d4 and see what you get
please paste the formula you have in D5
do you get any difference when you use 9 versus 109 in the function_num
position

looking at your post again, you say you selected A2:D24 and did data-subtotal
It treated row 2 as a title row, so it would not add this to the subtotal
try selecting A1:d24 and see what happens
(In other words I feel Pranav is correct)

Helo bj,

Yes, you are right.

I need to highlight one more row above the foirst row of data to enable the
table to add corectly

I also have discoverd this by trial and error yesterday.

Thanks you anyway.
