I have received an update for Excel 2002 but I am using Office 2000 and the
update will not load and comes up with the error that I need PROPLUS.MSI when
I put in my copy of the CD Office 2000. The update keeps coming up and I
can't either download it or get rid of it. Any help would be gratefully
recived.

have a search through this and the other excel/windows forums (google)
it was mentioned several times a while back and the fix worked for me.
It involved disabling a windows service - so best not to try it from my
memory :)

If you are using Windows XP, then normally a "restore" point is created
prior to an update being installed.
Check for "System Restore" on your start menu.
Mine is in Start | All Programs | Administrative Tools | System Tools.
That should allow you to return to the configuration you had before the
botched download.

You also might want to consider manually updating your system instead
of relying (?) on automatic updates. The second Tuesday of each
month is the spawn date.
