Excel 2002 locking up in a range selection mode

We have been having this problem of Excel 2002 locking up in a range
selection mode after being idle for about 10-15 minutes. TAsk manager can
close Excel out but only a reboot will keep Excel from doing this after it
has started.

I have found some information on the EXT function in Excel and thought that
was the problem originally but it is not.

Any ideas?
