Excel 2000 won't open

Keith

I have Office 2000 Premium installed on a computer running
Windows 98. Out of nowhere, Excel stopped working. If I
try to open a file from Explorer, it locks up the
computer. If I try to open Excel directly, it locks up
the computer. I tried uninstalling Office completely and
then reinstalling , but that didn't fix it. Unfortunately
there are no error messages to report. Has anyone else
experienced this behavior?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Keith!

Have you tried opening Excel in Safe Mode:

Click Run on the Start menu.
Type the path to Excel.exe, and add the appropriate switches. For
example, use the following command line
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /s
OK

This starts Excel bypassing any file in the Startup folder, Addins and
Toolbar changes.

But I would suspect a bloated Excel.xlb file.

Do a search for it and if it is above around 30KB it is probably
bloated and can be deleted.

I have a similar problem but I get this message.

Program Error

EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

I don't know where the error log is located.

I too, have uninstalled Excel and Office and then reloaded
the program without success.
