Excel 2000 will not open a file.

I have windows 98se. I have been using excel 97 with no
problems. I recently loaded Office 2000 and now, Excel
2000 will not open an excel file by simply double clicking
the file. I have to open the excel program, then file,
then open, then go find the excel file I want to open and
only then will it open it. When I try to double click the
file to open, it gives me: "Cannot find the file or one of
its components. Make sure the path or filename are correct
and all required libraries are available"
Any suggestions on what's wrong?

Try the usual fixes for this problem.

Tools>Options>General uncheck "Ignore other Applications"
Exit Excel and try again

If this doesn't work try to re-register Excel

Close Excel first and
On the Windows Taskbar

1 ) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
