First, make sure the status bar is shown. It normally has "ready" at the
left. Use View - Status bar if it's not there.
Right click on an empty area toward the right side of the status bar, and
ensure that SUM is selected. It might be set to None.
SUM doesn't appear unless you've selected some cells containing numbers (not
text or other stuff) for it to sum. If that doesn't work, try typing a few
numbers into a few cells. First make sure the cells are not formatted text
(Format - Cells - General is good). Select the cells, then SUM= should
appear.
