I am runnning office 2000 standard, under windows xp prof. i have a
spreadsheet of users and serial numbers of their computers, and was wondering
if there is an easy way to do a mail merge with outlook. i want to send out
an email to everybody on the list, with there appropriate serial number
inlcluded in the email and see if that is in fact the computer that they
have. any body got any ideas?

Why not just e-mail everyone a copy of the complete list?

that is a last resort option....i dont exactly want to send out 500 copies of
my inventory list and then get 500 copies of it back to me when people reply.
it will degrade network performance a bit too. but still....i would at
least like to know if what i want to do is possible. anyone??

also....is this something that can be done in office 2003 and not in 2000?
thanks again

You're going to get 500 copies of *something* back anyway, aren't you? Why
would they have to send the list back? Can't you use voting buttons in
Outlook?
By the time you get the answer you're looking for, this could have been
finished already.

also....the people i would send the list to are complete idiots, and wouldn't
know how to remove the excel file in the reply. so....yea

well then tell me....what are the voting buttons?

You have Outlook, yes? And I assume, with at least 500 users, an Exchange
server? What happens when you open Outlook help and type in "voting"?

Attachments aren't included in replies unless they're deliberately
reattached. And you say your *users* are compete idiots?

voting is not what i wish to do....someone other than this guy please help?

no need to get hostile.....jerk off

Look--it's a simple process if you allow it to be. Send out the list. Tell
users to check their serial numbers against the list. Use voting buttons, so
the "complete idiots" only have to say yes, it matches, or no, it doesn't.
What could be simpler? What you want to do is make things more complicated
and give the idiots more of a chance to be idiots.

Kid, I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to tell you to
ignore you know who...I have never in my life saw such meanness from
someone..I have been praying for them...

thanks shelia. thats all i wanted. i didn't want to be told "a better way"
to do my idea. i wanted to know if my way was possible. thats it. i am
very computer savy.....working in IT and majoring in Computer Engineering, i
have to be......but there are somethings that i just cant figure out. so
naturally i come here. and when people tell me things that i dont want to
here, i get angry. its nice to get a straight answer. thanks sheila.

Sorry, but I wasn't aware that you were computer "savy" or that you might
get angry if told something you don't want to "here." I'll bet that there
are many, many things you can't figure out.
