Excel 2000 - formula

V

Valerie

When I enter a simple formula i.e.3 + 3 the answer "6" should be
displayed but the formula should still appear in the cell. However,
the formula is being overridden with the answer 6. Another example, I
want the sum of two cells (i.e. B3 + B4) to display in cell B5. I
enter the formula into cell B5 and again the value of the two cells
override the formula. The formula should remain and adjust with any
new values entered into cells B3 or B4.

Has anyone else had this problem?

That is the way excel works, you can see the formula in the formula bar but
the result will always be in the cell,
the value will change when you change the values in B3 and B4, how did you
expect to see both the formula and the
result of the formula? You can switch between formula view and regular by
holding down ctrl + ` (Grave Accent same key as the tilde ~
the key to the left of 1 on a US layout) To turn on formula bar, do view and
check formula bar

I obviously didn't explain my problem very well. The formula bar, as
well as the cell, reflects the result. The formula is gone! If I
enter the following
formula: =B3+B4 into cell B5 where B3 has a value of 2 & B4 a value of
3, B5 will result in a value of 5.

If I change the value of B3 to 6, B5 should recalc and enter a value
of 9. However, the formula has been overridden and B5 continues to
reflect the original answer of 5.

Gone for sure in the formula bar? Just the value is showing in both cell and
formula bar?

Perhaps some event code behind the worksheet? Right-click on the sheet tab
and "View code". Anything there?

Make sure Calculation is set to Automatic under Tools>Options>Calculation.

Yes, the formula disappears and the formula bar reflects the same
value (6 in the example below) as the cell. I do not have any code on
the worksheet that it is happening in; but, I do have numerous macros
in this workbook.

I have also verified the Calculation is set to Automatic.

Strange doin's if no code behind worksheet.

How about in ThisWorkbook module?

Send me the workbook if possible.

Change the DOT and AT for my email address.
