Excel 2000 crash with autofilter

I've been using Autofilter for quite a while now. I've got quite a large
spreadsheet (30MB) with autofilters applied to various worksheets.

the first problem I encountered a couple of weeks ago was that the
autofilter would simply stop working (i.e. not dropdown list would
appear when clikcing on the black arrow). I had to uninstall and
re-install to make it work again.

The problem then became more frustrating as I had to uninstall and
re-install more than once to get it to work again.

And finally, last week, I can use the autofilter once and then any
attempt to use it again and Excel crashes. I get the usually Microsoft
Excel has encouter a problem and needs to close. The error signature
is:

appName: excel.exe
ModVer: 10.0.6501.0
appVer: 10.0.6501.0
OffSet: 004d3dc1
ModName: excel.exe

I've had a look at the Microsoft website but no info on this also I
have found quite a few people on the web with the same issue and no
explanation/fix.

I run Office 2000 with Windows Xp and it seems that people get this
problem when upgrading to Xp when running Office 2000. I've also
started to have the same problem with other smaller files. I've already
re-installed Office. The spreadsheets are not locked either...

I have also noticed that when presing Alt+F11 for VBA, the
EnableAutoFilter field on the left hand side is always on False even if
the Autofilter is on.

I've exhausted all my limited knowledge and can not find any
explanation or fix for this issue. I use the Autofilter all day long
and it's driving me crazy  . Obviously Microsoft are as helpfull
as ever by not replying to my queries so I would like any help yo can
give me.

Can you please let me know if you have the same problem and more
importantly, how to get it sorted?

Thanks

Don't worry about the EnableAutoFilter property. It should be False,
unless you've used programming to enable the AutoFilter arrows when
user-interface-only protection is turned on.

Thanks Debra, that's one thing less to worry about.

Any idea about the Autofilter bug?
