Examples of FTP

Can anybody point me towards a good example of downloading files from an FTP
site? I have found some stuff on the MS web pages but it's all in pieces.
I'd like something that just logs in, downloads a file and then disconnects.

Mostly me, myself and I. Sometimes someone else (like you) posts additional
links which are worth adding, and then I update the page... .
