Somehow the settings on our computer have changed. Icons,
text, browser, mail, taskbar, everything is so very tiny
you practically need a magnifying glass to read it. I
believe our 4 yr old did something to it...he likes to
keep clicking things. How do I get it back to normal?

Thanks!

not sure if i'm stating the obvious ... but maybe he's
just increased the display resolution? try going to
Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings and
decreasing the resolution.

He has probably changed the screen resolution. Do a Properties on the
desktop (right click the mouse on the screen) and clcik on Settings tab Then
lower the resolotion.

Hi Dan

If you see the number of youngsters that get blamed for their parents' cock ups... Read my earlier post in this thread. Any blame put onto a 'younger generation' in these NGs is always suspicious - the 'kids' are not always to blame - more so, the parents are trying get out of a 'situation' that they have caused themselves, because they have caused the 'cock up'...

maybe they're just embarrassed ... maybe they don't know
as much about computers as you do and so are unsure if
what they're asking is a silly question. i know what you
mean, but i just don't see the point in making someone
feel small, especially in a 'support' newsgroup ...

Security, think, Security, then my posting might not then seem to be so arbitrary. If the parent/guardian/grandparent doesn't know who to monitor 'junior's' access to a PC then I would suggest that 'junior' isn't allowed access to any PC - try & prove me wrong.

BTW - I will never make any feel small in any NG that I subscribe to. I will, however, point out security measures to those parties that I don't think have the nous to understand them.

It's up to each individual parent to decide the access
rights of their children. It's not really your place to
impose your idea of 'ethical' parenting on others. And as
far as security measures go ... you make it sound
like 'junior's' going to be hacking into the Pentagon. But
anyway, it's a silly dead end argument. I don't agree with
you, but that's fine. See ya :)

Thank you Dan for very informative posting - someone will advise you if you need to repost.

Clever tyke! Perhaps you have a game installed that changes the
resolution? Control Panel \ display \settings. I keep mine at 800x600.

It's not that difficult is it when you think about it? Mouse click on a
desktop, then click on words that come up and play around with the popup.
It's very easy to do - even for 4 year old.

....a 4 year old 'happening' upon the settings to change the resolution...

First thing to try is System Restore - go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore

Take 'Restore to earlier point', and from the calendar choose a day
before the trouble started. It will close down and restore in the
course of booting up again

Thanks to all that replied. We blamed the wrong
child...it was our 14 yr old who changed the settings
when he played a game, but didn't know how to change it
back. We tried everything else, but didn't think of that!
