I need to first add that I am getting the "Blue screen of Death" with
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0000FFDF, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x806E4A8E)

Does that error produce a Blue Screen of Death? I wonder whether dbctl
has got the wrong report?

General information on Stop Error message
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms793589.aspx

Does the error occur during or after the boot process?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Do you have a Windows XP CD?

Hope this helps.

Does that error produce a Blue Screen of Death?

I am sure that the error has nothing to do with a BSOD, Gerry. But the post
that I replied to made no mention of that.

I'm sorry that I have not gotten back to you sooner but between being busy,
weather and the computer time just flew by. I'm using my laptop now but my
desktop that I'm having the trouble with will not even go into windows now.
It shows the screen that gives you the choice to run windows normally, last
known good configuration or safe mode. When I choose one of those all it does
is restarts and goes back to the same screen. It does this over and over
again and doesn't matter which you pick. What can I do to fix this or even
just reload XP new? I tried that too booting from the XP disk but it would
restart and never finish loading all the way. Now it will not even let me try
to do that.
Please help.

Please post a complete copy of the Stop Error message.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the
F8 key during StartUp and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

What type of Windows XP CD do you have? What is the make and model of
your computer?

Disconnect all computer peripherals except for keyboard, mouse, and
monitor. Does the computer boot?

My machine kept restarting as well. I resolved it by doing a NTFS (Quick)
Format, installing it over and over again, left it off for a day, tried
again, and it worked.

Try formatting it with NTFS (Quick), then let it install. If it switches
off, leave it for a while (I left it for a day) and then try again.

My error code was UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.

If it works - remember to install the drivers!

Let me know if it works
