event log message - how long is too long?

Hello,
I am writing to the event log. The messages include large dumps of data to
help us recreate the scenario. Sometimes, when the the message is very
long (well over 5000 characters), the event is not logged at all. I had
expected it to be truncated and logged, but it is not logged at all.

Do you know the allowable max size of a message for logging to event log?
Is this configurable?

The log itself is not full. Even when it is empty, long messages will not
log but shorter ones will.

I have never heard a max size for the data part of the event log but then I have
never heard someone trying to jam 5k into it either. I would recommend you
create a dump file with that info, the event log docs in MSDN indicate the info
should minimal but enough to be helpful. You could dump to a file and indicate
the file in the event log.
