Karl

I have an XP workstation on a 2000 network and the system
log is getting the 7000 and 7005 messages with Service
Control Manager as the source and the error message
of "Access is denied".

Also, the application log is getting 1058 and 1030 with
userenv as the source.

Articles I have found on all of these messages do not
work. It seems as though some highest level rights are
messed up. Any ideas?

Karl,

I'm having the same problem (WinXP machine on Win2k Domain) except for the
7000 & 7005 in the system log. Article 314494 did not help me either. What I
Noticed is that in my case, the description for Event ID 1058 was not a
matter of "access denied" to file gpt.ini, but a matter of incorrect path to
file gpt.ini. My XP machine is looking for it in
\\domainname\sysvol\domainname\policies\{31B2F340...} instead of
\\domainname\policies\{31B2F340...}. My GUID is also different. It starts
with {E518BD7E...}. I don't know if this applies to you, but if it does and
you manage to make it work, Let me know.
