Event ID 2006 on Server 2000

We have gotten Event ID: 2006 messges "The server has received an incorrectly
formatted request from \\computername". These have corresponded to severe
slowdowns in file retrieval. Seems intermittant and goes away on its own.
Have gotten 6-7 of these over 2 hour period this morning. On the console at
the time, no special CPU utilization was noted. Has anyone run into this
sort of thing? This is first time for this server, which has been very
reliable and is used only for departmental file sharing. Box is a Dell 4-cpu
PowerEdge 2450 connected to RAID-5 array.
