Don

I am having a problem with my Win2k DC. Every once in a
while it is rebooting. I'm not sure why. The only thing
that is out of the ordinary is an event log entry which
states: Scource NTDS Catagory Internal Proccessing KCC
Event ID 1168 Error 1(1) has occurred (Internal ID
f060065). Please contact Microsoft Product Support
Services for assistance. I can not find anything in the
knowledge base.

I am running this DC in a mixed mode environment. This
server is my DNS, PDC and has all roles exept Schema
master. I have Symantec AV corp 8.1 running as well.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Hope this helps...

Comment: Per Microsoft Q258062, this could be a security
issue. In my case it was corruption due to a power
failure. Th actual fix for the corruption was on
Microsoft Q265089 Recovery Step #1:

Rename the Edb.chk file. When Active Directory boots, it
checks the integrity of the DIT file and log. If problems
are encountered, a "soft recovery" is attempted. During
soft recovery (or immediately afterwards), the 2195
release of Windows 2000 creates a log file without any
attached information in the log file header.

To resolve the problem, delete (although it is safer to
rename, then delete once you are able to boot) the Edb.chk
checkpoint file. Reboot the DC in normal Active Directory
mode.

NOTE: It occurred again after the first reboot and
appeared not to work but this was actually when the repair
was done. On the Second reboot, the system booted
normally. Index: 536
