Ethernet problems and SFC will not run in Win2k ??

I got the virus Hidrag.A on one of my Win2k machines, and ended up
watching quite a few "system files" get deleted to rid of the virus.

I know on startup I would get an error message saying that it couldn't
find system32.exe or some related file and couldn't execute it.

The computer is cleaned of viruses. I had to delete a lot of files
including system file that were infected with "Hidrag" because the virus

cannot be removed. I didn't find any virus programs that could remove
or
disinfect the files.

There is no internet access via the Ethernet ports (broadband) and that
is
the first thing that died on the computer when it was infected with
viruses
and spyware. The count came up to over 400 viruses and quite as many
spyware.

I did try installing a USB ethernet adapter but that didn't work
either.

Local network access works on my peer to peer network from this
computer. I can see the other computers, copy files back and forth and
so
forth but no internet access.

I used a little utility to try to reset or repair the Winsock and TCP
but that didn't work which is
why I was thinking this could all be related to the missing systems
files
or ones infected by the virus. I haven't tried using a standard
modem
yet thou.

My problem is that I can get "SFC" to run. It keeps giving me some
error about windows protection and I pull up a little command prompt Dos

window run SFC.

First error message --> "Windows file protection could not initiate a
scan
of protected system files."
I also get this error --> "specifc error code is 0x000006ba [The RPC
server is unavailable]"

what is the correct procedure in running "SFC" ?
how do I run "SFC" ? Normal Mode ? Safe Mode ?

I tried safe mode command prompt as well and the same error messages

Restoring the system files is one problem, but how do I reset the
network
configuration so that I will have internet access or is everything sort
of
connected like I was thinking ?

any ideas ?

Thanks..

Hi;

I'd recommend you backup important data files then format the drive and
do a clean install.
