Ethernet (1394 Net Adapter) Driver Issue

B

Brian A.

Are you installing the driver from a manufacturer supplied disk or
letting Windows search for it?
Do you have a disk with the proper drivers?
If you know the adapter manufacturer/make/model, go to their support site
and download/install it per their instructions.

Hello,

Need some help with a problem I can't seem to resolve. I've just
reinstalled Windows XP. Everything seems to be fine except for when I
try to install my cable which uses the ethernet adapter. Every time I
try to install the driver for the ethernet adapter it says this:

-"The driver was not installed because the wizard cannot find the
necessary software"-

-"The drivers for this device is not installed"-

Can someone *please* help me with this? How can I get this ethernet
card to work? Do I need to download a certain driver from somewhere?
Any help would be *greatly* appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
-Anthony Taylor

Letting windows perform the search.

Nope.

site and download/install it per their instructions.

How do found that out? Not sure if this is the right way to do it o
not, but I did this:

Start\Control Panel\Network Connections\Right-clicked on Local Are
Connection\Select Properties:

= Connected Using: 1394 Net Adapter

Is 1394 the brand name? Do they have a website with downloadabl
drivers? Any help is greatly appreciated, man.

Thanks in advance,
-Neno

That's an ASUS motherboard and you're using the integrated NIC. You can
get all the drivers for that board here:
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=12&l3=30&model=175&modelmenu=1

Click on Download to the left of the board info and under the name ASUS.
Click either the All or Drivers tab.

Before jumping right in, check to see what is in the machine with:
Everest Home Edition(Free):
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads9.html

http://basconotw.mvps.org/dwnlds.htm

Create a new folder named Everest and extract the contents of the
download to
that folder.
Open the folder and double-click everest.exe to run the application.

1394 is firewire. It is not an ethernet adapter. It is listed as a network
adapter because firewire can be used to connect two computers directly and
network them to eachother. Look under your device manager and see if your
ethernet adapter is listed under Network Adapters. If it is, and has a red
X on it, then you need to install the drivers for that Adapter. If not then
you should select that adapter to be the default under Network Connections
in the Control Panel not 1394.
