Hi

Not only that but did he say, words to the effect of " I have a knackered
network card one PC boots fine with it and one doesn't" and there appears to
be an eliment of suprise to the post regarding the one that doesnt

HMMMNnnn

FYI, it is usual custom when replacing hardware in a PC to at least turn it
off, Some go as far as unplugging it and others (the fanatics) will actuall
earth them selves before diving into the case and pulling bits out.......j/k :
-)

You did really switch the machine off didnt you? and were you really suprised
when a borked piece of hardware caused a PC to misbehave, you were'nt were you,
this is a wind up

Regards

S

hy guys

i did actually unplug and pluged it when my machine was running and the
new one did not hang but the old one would not let me do it and jus
hang.I mean if u cant do that then what is the meaning of Plug and Play
device . hy check my original post and tell me why on earth that
happens . I think that more of due to technological changes in the
hardware and BIOS capability . what do u guys say.

Surely you are joking. I mean we have jokes like that hanging on the
wall,...some of them in frames.

Now if it is a laptop with the credit card sized Nic, then those can be
inserted/removed but even then you need to indicate to the OS you are doing
it and wait till it tells you it is safe to remove.

The meaning of plug and play is that when "you turn on your PC" it will
detect new hardware and attempt to install drivers for it. Or you can plug
certain external devices in (USB) that the PC will recognize and attempt to
install drivers for. It does NOT mean that you can radomly remove hardware
from your PC while it is running!
