Ray tried to fix it yesterday, and the problem is back.
I expect computer parts are all over the COLO floor right now
The E-S news server has on occasion, used more than one
computer. It has a front end, back end, and web server, and
they don't all necessarily sit on the same piece of hardware.
At the moment, the web server is not working, and that's not
a good sign. Give him a day to fix it.

They must have a good backup and restore in that COLO. Probably
restored to a spare server.
Actually, when I look in my packet sniffer, mx05.eternal-september.org
is handling newserver duty. Whereas previously (in the last
week), it was dns3.eternal-september.org. So maybe some of the
software was moved from one machine to another, just to keep
things running. There might be another outage when a more
permanent solution is ready.
You would think if an entire computer was replaced, the IP
would stay the same.
