Errors found on hard disk

I have run chkdsk on c prompt and it says errors found chkdsk cannot run on
read only mode. How can I repair the errors or run chkdsk not in read only
mode?

you can run it from
safeboot mode as well.

however, the absolute best
way is to run it from
the recovery console
at the c prompt.

if you havn't done this
before, you might want
to use the chkdsk /r option.

this will take longer but
it should be done at least
once in the lifetime of a harddrive.

Use a switch with chkdsk, it will then ask to dismount the disk, or if
the disk is the Windows disk it will inform you that the command has to
be run when the computer restarts and ask you if you want to schedule it
to run at the next reboot. Do chkdsk /? to get help on the available
switches.

My experience: if I run chkdsk from command prompt on the drive where
windows is installed, it will often show the type of error you are
reporting. I have been told that is because the chkdsk command must
have interrupted some disk-writing operation. If I repeat chkdsk once
or twice, the error message is no longer seen. IOW, the error message
when chkdsk is run from command prompt is often a false alarm.

Start | Help and Support, search on check disk or chkdsk.
