Errors Extending Directory for SMS 2003

Micah

I have followed posted directions and all steps are verified for extending
the directory for SMS server 2003. I've run the extension utility from the
sms server as well as from all DC's in the domain and I get the following in
the log file each time

<05-02-2004 10:36:51> Modifying Active Directory Schema - with SMS
extensions.

8202.
<05-02-2004 10:36:51> Failed to create class
cn=MS-SMS-Roaming-Boundary-Range. Error code = 8202.
<05-02-2004 10:36:51> Failed to extend the Active Directory schema.

SMS seems to be reading the directory fine as the errors change as I create
the containers it is looking for. However it appears to fail because the
attributes and classes that it needs to use are not available because the
extensions were not added

Thanks in advance for the help

Are you logged in as an Schema Admin and Enterprise Admin during the
operation?

Sure am, Don't think this is a permission related issue any more. Have
tried it from 2 different accounts both with appropriate righs and the
schema is allowed to mbe modified (check box in operations master)

Hi

You may try the following method.

1. Start -> run -> "regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll"
2. Start -> run -> "mmc"
3. Console | Add/Remove Snap In / Add / Active Directory Schema
4. Select and right click Active Directory Schema, choose "operations
master"
Enable the check box: The Schema may be modified on this domain controller"

For more information, please refer to the following article.

216060 Registry Modification Required to Allow Write Operations to Schema

Also, you may turn on SCHEMA extension, restart sms and re-run EXTADSCH.exe
on the DC.

Hope this helps!
