Error when trying to install SP4 on win2K server

Hello,

I have a windows 2000 server that I am trying to get ready to install some
software on. Right now I am trying to Install Service Pack 4 and I am not
having much luck with this. When I run the Installation Program it gets to
the point where the installation is 60% complete and then I am getting
"Service Pack 4 setup error" stating that "An Error in updating your system
has occured" with an OK or a cancel button. if I click on the "OK" button the
Installation is backed out. If I click on the cancel then the system is left
in an unstable state.

I have tried running the installation from both the express setup and from
the Newtork Install and have been getting the same results. Does anybody know
of a way for me to get Service pack 4 to complete the installation?

Hi,
Give full control to system and administrator on your system drive and
replicate the permissions on all child objects. Download sp4 locally and
install it in safe mode.

Yes I have tried to run the install process in safe mode and when I did this
I received a message that said setup was unable to remove the ism.dll
mappings when I did this and I am still not able to install SP4

Hi Eric,

Stop and disabled IIS Admin, World Wide Web Publishing service and FTP
Publishing services. Reboot the server in the normal mode and then try to
install sp4. You can also try to uninstall iis.

I had tried disabling IIS admin, World Wide Web Publishing service and the
FTP service and that still did not work. Before I had ever come back to look
at your response, on my own I had thought of the idea of uninstalling IIS.
When I did this everything worked correctly.
