error when starting windows XP

I receive an error...
error opening file for writing:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

How do I relete this file or correct this problem or file?
This is driving me nuts. I can not fix this.
Please HELP.

Hi Joe,

Open Windows Explorer to that folder, then right-click the HOSTS file.
Rename it HOSTS.old. Then reboot.

renaming it will not help in the process of opening or writing to the
HOSTS file. run Spybot Search & Destroy and/or Adaware on your system.
Sounds like you have some spyware trying to modify your HOSTS file
(which will redirect your web browser from any site they designate eg.
microsoft.com to their chosen site eg. buyourporn.com)
