error trying to play games after sp2

C

cowgirlskipper

If I click on a game(that uses ms-dos) I get the error
message "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is
not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the
application." Then it gives you close or ignore but it
closes either way.

I tried to system restore to a time before I installed sp2
but it goes all the way through the restart then it says
it didn't work.

Help me please...I don't know what to do...

Check in c:\winnt\repair - there may be a autoexec.nt in there, if there is
simply copy that over into the system32 directory.

Failing that there's one for download at
http://windows.dasmirnov.net/troubleshooting/commonproblems.php#autoexec.nt
simply stick that one in the system32 directory and see what happens.

Hi cowgirlskipper,

You can solve that problem by replacing the file:

1. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\repair
Right-Click and Copy the file named: autoexec.nt

2. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\System32
Right-Click in that window to Paste the file
(Answer yes if prompted to replace existing file)
