error sychost.exe or svchost.exe

I have attempted to download critical updated from
Microsoft updates. After 1.2 MB of the 40.0 MB, I keep
getting message "an error sychost.exe or svchost.exe has
generated and error restart program." I am not sure which
exe is indicated sychost.exe or svchost.exe

At which SP-level is your computer? It should be at SP4. The patch you
really need to install first is ms03-039, because it looks to me that you're
hit by the Blast worm. Go to www.sophos.com/support/disinfection and get the
removaltool.
