I am suddenly receiving an error msg. when trying to open
established database on my computer. First it says that
the file cannot be found, make sure you have the correct
path, etc., then I get a msg. reading "Can't find
Language DLL msain900.dll - then it will launch the
install window, saying that the file I need is on a
cd/disc, etc., but even with the MsOffice XP cd in the
drive, it tells me that either 1)it cannot find file
proret.msi, or 2)the Windows Installer Service cannot be
accessed.
Please help!! These databases have over 1200 company
clients' contact information!!!

Rule number 1 :Don't panic.
First try to recover your database. Create a new Access
database on your computer or other PC and import your
corupted database.

Second, apply the latest patches for Office from the
Microsoft site. That should prevent this from happening
again.

Still having the same problem. I can open the files on
another computer, but MS Access on the main computer is
just lost! The error problem is this:
"Access failed to start correctly last time. Starting
Access in Safe Mode will help you correct or isolate a
startup problem in order to successful start the
program... Do you want to start Access in Safe Mode?" I
click on yes, and then it reads "Cannot find Language DLL
msain900.dll" which I know is a driver file, but i cannot
find it on my MS Office XP cd. Initially it was giving me
the option to install from proret.msi from the disk, but
I received error messages reading that "The Windows
Installer Service could not be accessed... because you
are operating Windows in Safe Mode, or the Windows
Installer is not properly installed." Now it is not even
giving me the option to install from the disk.
What has caused this? I was using the database last
Friday, then returned after the weekend and yesterday I
started receiving these errors. No changes have been made
and no one had touched to computer since I turned it off
last Friday evening. I have searched the MS website for
Windows Installer Service errors, but no answer.
What do you suggest I do? Reinstall Office all together?
I know you said not to panic, but I am 8 months pregnant,
about to go on maternity leave, and I am the IT gal for
the office and I am at a complete loss! And very close to
a panic! ;)

You need to install Access completely. I got this error when I chose the defaults for installing office 2007. I know it seems stupid, but it you just take the default install, it does not completely install Access.

Go to control panel/add remove programs

click on Office 2007 and press the change button.

You'll see the products. Click the + to expand Access. Select the option to install completely on your machine for all of the components of access. Finish the install.

This worked for me.
