Error receiving mail in Outlook 2003

Hi, I have just upgraded from an old version of Outlook to Outlook 2003 and I
can no longer receive mail, when I try I get the following error message:

Task ' - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server
rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account
properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR
Error logging in. Please visit http://mail.yahoo.com'

I can still receive mail using another program (Eudora) and the same account
details, and I can also send mail in Outlook 2003 but just can't receive it.
I've tried with and without the Windows firewall and I'm not using any virus
scanning software at the moment.

I've checked and rechecked the email settings, even when I do a 'Test
account settings' this works fine, but it still won't receive mail.

Does anybody have any ideas? This is driving me up the wall.

Diane Poremsky [MVP]

Try making a new profile (Control panel, mail, profiles) and see if it
works.

Thanks for your reply. I've deleted my old profile and created a new one
however the same thing happens when I try to receive mail.

I'd appreciate any other ideas you may have,

I have exactly the same problem ive installed and
reinstalled outlook2003sp1 two times but the same
result can send but not receive, the 1st install of
outlook 2003 worked fine for over a month and then every
time i pressed send/receive i got a pop up saying
operation failed but no error message

upon reinstall when i press send/receive it does nothing
unless i want to send
the progress box does not show up
checking settings it says ok to finding pop3 and
logging on to the mail server

Do you have SPA or other authentication methods enabled? Are you using a
firewall?

Hi Diane

I have checked that SPA is not turned on as this is not supported by my ISP.
I have tried both with and without the Windows firewall enabled and the same
thing happens each time.

Do you know if there is any way of raising a fault with Microsoft for them
to investigate?
