ERROR QUESTION.....SHELL32.DLL

Can anyone help? I am unable to delete folders in explorer. Whether
they have files in them or not. When I hit the delete key I get a
"shell32.dll error" This is in Windows Xp Home Edition. This just
started maybe a month ago. After the error my whole desktop dissapears
and then comes back in about 10 seconds. Does anyone know why this
happens or how I can fix this?
Thanks

What have you already done to troubleshoot? What does a scan with a
current antivirus program (meaning a version not earlier than 2002 and
using updated virus definitions) show?

Thanks for the help!
I have run norton antivirus and there is no virus shown. NAV 2003
updated. I have also checked for spyware with AdAware 6, Spybot &
SpySweeper. No problems found. All programs updated with latest
updates. I have also noticed that when I try to delete or move a file
in explorer it puts the cpu at 100% and unless I stop and restart the
explorer.exe it will stay at 100% cpu.

What is the exact error message?

To my knowledge there isn't an error message except for to say that it
is shell32.dll file with the problem. I have also noticed that when I
try to delete or move a file in explorer it puts the cpu at 100% and
unless I stop and restart the explorer.exe it will stay at 100% cpu
