"Error performing inpage operation" when logging in

I'm running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. I recieved an error while in
windows one day that refered to Windows Logon UI. I restarted my computer
after that and the old Windows 2k style login box appeared with
"Administrator" allready defaulted in the user ID field. I typed in the
password and got an error message telling me that it could not log me in and
"Error performing inpage operation".

I tried to get into Safemode and get the same thing. I tried to boot using
last known good configuration and same thing. I got into my BIOS and chaned
my Admin Password and got the same thing.

Thanks in advance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

According to a quick Google search as shown below that error is usually
related to file access problems. Can you logon with any user account? You
could simply erase administrator and enter another user name in the logon
box. If you can logon with another user name then it appears that the
administrator profile is corrupt and hopefully you have another user that is
in the local administrators group so that you can delete the administrator
profile via system properties/advanced - user profiles. If you can logon as
another user but do not have another user account that is in the local
administrators group try using runsas to start the net command with
administrator credentials to add another user to the local administrators
group. "Net help localgroup" will give you details on that command. ---
